Your Questions About Fly On Desktop Software

Nancy asks…

Seeking adivce from software developers?

There’s a few things I’d like to do where I’ve been waiting for certain bits of software to be invented. I wouldn’t have thought we were too far away from these things being available now, I wonder if a software developer might be able to tell me if there are things in the pipeline in the following areas:

1: Text to song. I can make and play music, but I can’t sing. Software with a voice where you can type words, choose note, length of note, add effect to note eg: tremelo, sustain etc.

2. With voice recognition being able to display it as text, and the way google can translate text in different languages, where are we with foreign subtitle software for films with no subtitles. Voice recognition understands words to create text, but automatically translates to the language in which the user selects. A piece of software that can run in the background when you play an avi movie file in a foreign language. Is this in the pipeline?

3. 3d avatars. We’ve got these 3D virtual world online games where avatars can walk and do various actions using the arrow keys. Is there such software, or can there be such software that similar kinds of avatars can walk across the active desktop. For example, on a static picture. Being 3d, walking further away would make them smaller etc. I can then use ready made screen capture software to capture it and make it form part of a movie.

4. Finally for flight sim developers. Flight sim and google earth together. Open them both up, have a merge button. Then the flight sim plane just uses the whole of google earth for its scenery. That leads to another question. If this can be done, or is already done? Can the flight sim aircraft be made to fly over the active desktop when on tower view. That way, we could have a static picture of an airfield, and could fly the approach and land on the runway in the picture. Using screen capture software to record it, and again making part of a movie.

These are ideas I’ve had in my mind for a while now, but have been waiting and watching the development of software that enables me to make it happen. So if there are any developers could give let me know if and where we are at with this, I would be grateful.

Joy answers:

Some of them already exist, sort of.
1. Number one would be difficult to code. You can they make programs that convert text to speech. If you can’t sing, programs like Garageband can do what’s known as autotuning. It’s kind of the same thing that rappers use, but they tune to weird keys. As long as you can get close, it will adjust your voice to where it needs to be. You can also modify your voice and add effects

2. Live voice is hard to translate. Other languages use different sentence structures and certain words may have different meaning according to context. This one isn’t a practical idea

3. I’m not sure what you mean here. That seems pointless, but it should be the easiest to do.

4. The Navy and Airforce developed a software for this. They can map out terrain in 3d, apply textures for buildings, and then load it into a flight sim. Google will probably create something like this in the future
