just so you know wading is not an option

Joy answers:

I fish the chattahoochee river alot and almost exclusively from a boat with a great deal of success. I sometimes find schools of shad which i use for bait after i catch them with a cast net, but i don’t rely on that alone since they aren’t always available. I’ll go to several smaLL CREEKS CLOSE TO HOME AND CATCH bream, hornyheads, perch…whatever and use these for bait and have caught some very nice largemouth bass, as well as some flathead catfish as large as 35 pounds, and of course the ever abundant longnose gar as well as an occasional hybrid, and striped bass. I fish where another creek empties into the hooch such as sweetwater creek, or peachtree creek and almost always fish on the bottom with a large egg sinker to withstand the current. Find a spot that breaks off deeper than everything else around and let your bait drift into the deeper hole and hold on !! There is a ton of big monster fish in this river, and all you have to do is put some bait in their face, they will tear it up. Also keep plenty of hooks and sinkers with you because you will get hung up on submerged structure, it’s all part of river fishing, but dont get discouraged, and one last thing….. Make sure you have a rod and reel and line that can handle big fish too. It will drive you nuts to hook into a monster fish only to lose it because you were using too light of gear. Good luck
