Hiking/Camping in Portland, OR Area?
Myself and a couple of friends are looking into going to Oregon over spring break. We would like to spend 3-4 days in the outdoors and ultimately end up in Portland for a few nights before flying home. My main question is where would we be able to go on a backpacking/hiking/fishing trip within a couple hours of Portland? What should we include on this trip? Does Mt. Hood have spring skiing?
Info and advice from anyone familiar with the area would be greatly appreciated.
I live in Portland, and there are many places to go hiking. One of them is actually not in portland, but it’s about 2 hours away. Go to mt. saint helens. I’ve went hiking around this area many times, there are many trails to choose from. Go to for more info: http://mountsthelens.com/hiking.html
Also, Smith Rock is a great place. its down south past Mt. Hood. It kinda looks like the Grand Canyon, and its really beautiful there. If you want you can even go rock climbing: http://www.smithrock.com/
Oregon has a lot of hiking places, Its filled with that kind of stuff. Here are some links where you can just look around at all those places:

And yes, depending on the weather, skiing is open in the spring on Mt. Hood. My cousins go ALL the time.
Hope this helps
