The Aberdare National Park is one the highly rated Kenya Wildlife Parks. This is because of the fact that it is famous for its incredible waterfalls, moorlands and imposing tops which rise to 4,001m above sea level.
Additionally, the park is home to a fascinating range of terrains that occur round the Aberdare mountain range. Due to this, it is a favourite with hikers and those who want to do some challenging mountain cycling in the center of the African wilderness.
The Kenya animals that occur in the park include the African lion, the African and black leopards, waterbuck, Cape buffalo, duiker, black rhino, olive ape, the Sykes and the black and white Columbus monkey as well as the rare giant forest hog which is endemic to Kenya.
The Aberdares is also a bird lovers’ haven because almost 300 bird species for example, the Jackson’s Francolin, eagles and sparry hawk occur there.
Trout fishing abounds in the park’s innumerable crystal clear streams so it's a great spot to hone your fly fishing.
The Aberdare National Park offers visitors a range of accommodations to suit their pockets.
The most noted of these is the Treetops Hotel which is where Queen Elizabeth was staying when she ascended to the throne. Treetops Hotel is located extraordinarily close to a water hole. As such, it is perfect for nighttime animal viewing and for observing wildlife behaviour up close.
Other hotels include the Ark which offers some breathtaking scenery. There also are a few self-service bandas and campsites that cater for travelers that are on a tight budget.
If picnicking is a favorite pastime, please be certain to check out one of the national park’s designated picnic sites.
The Aberdares offers such mind boggling safari options that you are sure to lose a sense of time. So do not forget to put aside several days for an Aberdares safari; it is unlikely to be just one or two hours adventure.
